Is it important to build a team to design your personal life?

The team plays a major role in every great design. As teamwork make a project, product or a building to life. Designers believe in radical collaboration because true genius is a collaborative process. We design our lives with many connections with others.

When you design your life, you are engaging in an act of co-creation. When you use design thinking, the mindset is completely different from strategic planning or life coaching. One key difference is the role of the community.

A few particularly important people will become your core collaborators and play a crucial and ongoing part of your life design.

Identifying your team:

Everyone participating in your life design effort in one way or another should be thought as part of your team. But there are different roles played by different people and it is useful to name them.

1.Supporters: 

These are the people you can count on who cares about your life. People close enough encouragement helps keep you going.  Many people think that all of their friends are supporters but only some of them who are really show interest in your life design can be a part of your team.

2. Players:

Players are the active participants in your life design projects especially your ongoing work related and prototypes. These are the people you actually do things with also you can assume them as co-workers.

3.Intimates:

Intimates include your immediate and close related family and your closest friends. These are likely the people most directly affected by your life design and whether they involve in your life design or not they are the most influential people in it. It is better to inform your life design to your intimates.

Steps in building a team:

  1. Make a list of three to five people who might be a part of your life design team. Think of your supporters, your intimates, your mentors. Ideally, these will be three to five people should also actively engaged in designing their life
  2. Make sure everyone has a copy of the book ” Designing your life by bill Burnett and Dave Evans”. So all the members of your team understand how life design
  3. Agree to meet regularly and actively to co-create a well-designed life as a community.
